 FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What does this Group Ancestry process look like?

When Narrate consults with the party planners, we’ll talk about areas that are important to cover at that particular gathering. For example, if a wedding anniversary is being celebrated, we’ll interview participants about their memories of the couple, their thoughts on relationships and love, and their wishes for the couple in the future. We’ll interview more people for shorter time periods to create an ensemble of voices for the couple to enjoy!

Do Group Ancestries have to be recorded in person?

Such a great question! You would think so, and in-person recordings are super fun, engaging, memorable, and magical. However, a lot can be done with some creative problem solving as well. In August 2021 Narrate hosted/ recorded a 30-person family reunion on Zoom organized around the family matriarch’s 85th birthday celebration. We had an amazing time, and created a totally unique experience for the family.

What are good occasions for Group Ancestries?

Narrate has conducted group oral histories from a variety of events and we’ve interviewed as many as 40-people in a 6-hour session. Narrate has documented family reunions, college reunions, anniversaries, student groups, birthdays, and even a wake. Family and friend gatherings are incredibly valuable times for people to get together and reminisce, and to come together and bond over shared stories and experiences.

What does a Narrate final product look like?

Narrate wants your deliverable to sound like a story being delivered by a storyteller. While Narrate interviewers, take the storytellers through the process of being interviewed - asking questions, listening closely, following up on details - our editors try to remove the interviewer from the final product as much as possible so it sounds like the subject delivering their story flowing and uninterrupted.

I loved the whole process! Evan was well-researched and asked great questions. He left my family with a wonderful, unique gift. I highly recommend Narrate!
